Aurora Terminalis

The places in this novel are real; though some are thinly disguised. The characters are fictitious; though often based on real people for whom the author has the highest regard. The action is fiction; or is it prediction?
Aurora Terminalis is the story of two young people working at the frontiers of science; she with the shifting magnetic fields of the earth, he with the turbulent emissions from the sun. They meet by chance and the interaction of the two of them is played out against a backdrop of the changing interaction between the deadly Coronal Mass Discharges of our sun and the protective shield of the earth's magnetosphere.
It poses the question: What would happen if Earth's magnetic shield were weakened and disorganized by a magnetic pole reversal at the same time the sun experiences greater turbulence at the peak of its sunspot cycle? Could Aurora Borealis really become Aurora Terminalis?
Our protagonists search for scientific answers in abandoned mines, natural caves, and high-tech labs while exploring their own romance among the scenic beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Sara is a strong, independent, farm girl who can drive a tractor, back a manure spreader, weld a wagon tongue, or program a high-tech, 3-dimensional computer-driven display of the solar system.
Jared is a capable young engineer whose interests range from underground caves to the surface of the sun and include a love of nature, his beloved dog Bella, and now Sara.

About the Author

G. Alan Simpson started working as an Engineer-Writer just as the phenomenal growth of the large scale computer industry began. After a career of writing about, building, testing, and delivering some of the world's fastest computers he is now retired and enjoying writing fiction. As an Engineer-Writer he had to get the facts (not always easy to do) and get done on time. As a fiction writer he can make up the facts and get done when he wants (and no one can tell him he is wrong). Fiction is more fun
