"The Australian Oxford Dictionary, in its first major revision since being published in 1999, is a dictionary for all Australians - student, readers, and writers. Prepared at the Australian National Dictionary Centre in Canberra, it is Oxford's most important Australian dictionary." "The new edition draws on the databases of Australian English at the Australian National Dictionary Centre - including its fast-growing national corpus of current usage and its research into Australian English - and on those of the incomparable Oxford English Dictionary. Through Dr Moore's access to other Oxford dictionary centres throughout the world, it also draws on the latest research into International English." "A distinguishing feature of The Australian Oxford Dictionary is its encyclopedic content. In addition to more than 100,000 words, compounds, idioms, and derivatives, it contains more than 10,000 encyclopedic entries. These entries are much more detailed than those in any comparable Australian dictionary - one of the highlights of The Australian Oxford Dictionary. For example, the place-name entries not only geographically locate the place in question, but also provide information about the character of the place and its historical, economic, or political importance. There are detailed entries on many topics - political parties, religious organisations, historical events, mythological and fictional characters, and so on."
