Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason
When autumn comes to mind, the image of orange leaves, orange pumpkins, and a large slice of orange pumpkin pie appear. It is not surprising that the author of this book chose autumn as the theme for a book about the color orange. Each spread is a beautifully illustrated picture of two children enjoying some aspect of fall. Instead of filling up the pictures with many orange items, the author and illustrator focus on one item and make it central to the text and picture. This is typical of all of the books in the "Know Your Colors" series. Prior to beginning of the story, there is a page explaining some basic color theory (i.e., yellow and red make orange), and at the end of the story is a list of other sources, including a link to Facthound.comand some interesting facts about the color orange. This book is a great read-aloud for parents of young children as well as for preschool and kindergarten teachers. Elementary art teachers will also find this a useful resource.
