I just finished reading this book even though it is not available for purchase. I was lucky to have been given a copy by the author. Oh what a wonderful book and the last in the series. It is so good you just can't put it down to do necessary things. It was wonderful and a big surprise ending. I know all will enjoy it. I enjoy the Amish novels because so few books are clean. Thanks Shelley!

Nineteen years old Lilly Allen remains grief stricken over her recent miscarriage. She also feels guilty that her family relocated from their home in Cleveland so her out-of-wedlock pregnancy can be hidden from her friends. Lilly knows she has moved by her negative reaction to the news that her forty something mom is carrying. Twenty-four year old Amish widower carpenter Robert Miller grieves the death of his beloved wife Grace who died three years ago. His caring family and friends want him to start courting Amish women, but he is not ready. Instead he is attracted to the Englisher Lilly who he knows from stopping for breakfast at the Sugar Creek inn where she works. As they begin to date to the consternation of their families, they fall in love, but an Amish and an Englisher has little in common. The third Seasons of Sugarcreek (See Spring's Renewal and Winter's Awakening) is a terrific contemporary Amish romance starring two people who have lost loved ones relatively recently and know the barrier between them seemingly is impenetrable. The support cast is super as his Amish friends and family and her family reject their relationship. However, this excellent entry belongs to the lead couple who each strongly believes their love has healed their respective souls but will break their hearts. Harriet Klausner

Why don,t you write a book telling us of the futures of all the families? Like how many children theyhave had ? Were Robert snd Lillie shunned? Did Caleb fall in love and stayon the farm? I could go on and on...butyou know what I mean I loved thisseries!!

I liked this book. It was a light read and enjoyable. It has a good ending not abrupt as some writers do.

Skipped the first 2 and started on this one. Loved this book. Very good writing about girl who overcame miscarriage and facing her own mother being pregnant. Her relocation, realization of her deeper dreams and goals in life in face of loosing the love in her life, and courage that it takes are amazing.

I absolutely love Shelley's work! She is a wonderfully seasoned Amish author. When she writes a series, the first installment is a wonderful one but each installment after is better than the one before. Each one also picks up right where the one before left off, bringing with it all the amazing characters from the past with it. FABULOUS! Autumn's Promise is beautifully done. We saw a lot of Lilly in Winter's Awakening and Spring's Renewal, and alot of Robert in Spring's Renewal, as secondary characters, but this novel is created around their story. Lilly and Robert are from two VERY different worlds, one English and one Amish, but there's sparks flying and one thing that they both share and what bonds them beyond a simple friendship: heartache. Both Lilly and Robert have been through the deepest, sorrowful heartache one could bear, and they can't seem to let go of the past, nor can they deny the attraction they feel, despite the gossip spreading through Sugarcreek. Mixed with their heartache, the strength of family, trust and faith and a feeling of love is woven through out. These tender characters become your family, capture your heart completely and share their life's lessons with the reader. As you read Autumn's Promise, you realize that this a bittersweet novel...you're saying goodbye to fabulous friends and a feeling of peace and belonging. It's a 5 star book that is full of lessons and is an outstanding conclusion to an incredibly penned Amish series. I highly recommend this to all Amish lovers and to those who've never read one, please start with Shelley's amazing novels!

Autumn's Promise by Shelley Shepard Gray is the third and final book in the Seasons of Sugarcreek series. Lilly Allen is finally recovering from her accidental pregnancy and the subsequent miscarriage that shattered her life when she learns that her mother is pregnant. Robert Miller is still grieving the death of his wife Grace, to cancer several years ago. At twenty-four, he's ready to start looking for love in his life again, and much to his surprise he seems to find that in Lilly, despite his being Amish and she is Englisch. The two wounded souls come together and ease each other's sad burden, but their differences may just be too much to allow them to be together forever, especially with the interference of their families. Gray's books are always some of my favorites in the growing genre of bonnet lit, and she continues to write compelling and poignant stories about the Plain people. Lilly and Robert seem such a natural couple, despite their differences, that as a reader, I was furious with the characters who wanted them apart. The ending is a bit of a surprise, and from the author's note, it appears that it wasn't what the author expected either. Great characters are those that sometimes don't act the way in which the author expects; Lilly and Robert are on that level. Gray has firmly established herself as a terrific writer with this series.

Author Shelley Shepard Gray takes us back to Sugarcreek, Ohio in Autumn's Promise, the last in the Seasons of Sugarcreek series. Lily Allen and Caleb Graber, are on separate searches to find out what is next in life for them. Lily has faced pain and loss and now her parents expect her to be happy about her mother's unexpected pregnancy. As she overcomes her own emotions about the pregnancy, Lily finds herself in love with Robert Miller, an Amish widower. Can an English woman marry and Amish man? Can an Englischer become Amish? Lily doesn't know what the future holds, only that she truly loves Robert. The story takes us through what can only be called an impossible love story. Caleb, a 16 yr. old Amish boy, is looking at his future and he doesn't like what he sees. He resents the thought of working on the family farm or being stuck working in the family store. He finds his rumschpringe to be fun, but it's still not enough. When he seems to finally have a plan and the support of his family, his impulsive actions upset everyone. We see how Caleb struggles and finds the answers to his questions of what he is supposed to do. Gray is a wonderful storyteller. Her love for the Amish shines but does not allow her to paint them in an unrealistic light. The entire Sugarcreek series is well-written. They are gentle love story's that pull you right in. I hope Shelly Shepard Gray remembers that there are four seasons and writes one more book about the characters in Sugarcreek. I think Caleb has a story to tell in the future!
