Chapter One
Ava was a young bottlenose dolphin, who lived in a small harbor outside Boston. She lived there with her friend, Remy the reef shark.
Today is a special day for Ava. She and Remy were about to set off on an underwater adventure to see their friend Conor, the swordfish.
Conor lives off Cape Cod in the ocean between Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.
Every year Ava, Conor and all their friends got together for this special day. Why was this day so special, you ask?
Many years ago, Ava and Conor were born just four hours apart on the very same day, in the very same year.
To celebrate their birthdays each year, they would all meet just off the shores of Nantucket to have fun and play games.
It had been a year since they had seen their friends and they missed them very much.
So Ava and Remy said goodbye to their parents and started off on their journey.
They had to be careful because the ocean where they lived was a very busy place filled with all kinds of boats and sea creatures.
As it turns out, this would not be the same trip Ava and Remy normally took. Little did they know a large hurricane would soon be upon them.
As they left the safety of the harbor, the waters began to get choppy and rough. This worried Ava and Remy since they were being tossed around and almost got separated. They looked for shelter along a reef where the water was calm and the storm could
"Thanks for staying close by me, Remy" said Ava. "Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you," said Remy.
As they were looking for shelter they came across a sunken ship.
"This ship looks familiar," said Remy.
"I know," said Ava. "This is where Maggie lives."
Maggie is a brightly colored starfish who they had met years ago.
"Maggie!" Ava shouted.
"Hi Ava, hi Remy, how are you guys?" Maggie asked. Maggie was so excited to see her friends.
They told her all about the storm and their plans to get to the birthday party.
Ava invited Maggie to come join them and offered her a ride. "YES!! I'd love to, I wouldn't miss your birthday party." Maggie exclaimed.
Off they all went, staying deep in the water to avoid the storm above them.
They were laughing and giggling as they swam along.
Maggie whispered to Remy, "What did you get Ava and Conor for their birthday?"
But when Maggie turned around, no Remy.
"Remy?.... Remy, where are you?" "Ava, where did Remy go?" They looked around and he was gone. They were immediately scared, Remy might be lost.
"REMY!!"
