Chapter One

Hola yo me llamo Avelina, y me encanta jugar.

Hi my name is Avelina, and I enjoy playing.

I live in this small house with my family.

My fathers name is Hernán, and my mothers name is Carolina. I also have a brother whose name is Pepe and my sisters name is Cecilia. My grandmother is Mrs. Panchita and she also lives with us.

My mother and father work during the week and my Grandmother Panchita, takes care of me during the day.

I sometimes spend the day playing in the house with Sebastian the cat, and all of my toys.

My grandmother is very special; she cares for me with lots of love. There are days when the neighbors arrive with their grandchildren. We enjoy spending time and playing together. I am always very good about sharing my toys with friends.

My grandmother and her friends gather in the kitchen, they like to sit around the dining table, they talk and sew quilts.

Mrs. Margarita likes to bring sweetbread, the other grandmothers also bring their favorite foods to share. My favorite dish is Mrs. Carmens spaghetti and meatballs, it is so very delicious!

One day, as I played hide and seek with my friends, I decided to find cover in the kitchen. As I ran, I bumped directly into the kitchen table where my grandmother and her friends sat. The tablecloth caught onto my overalls and within a matter of seconds a cup of coffee had spilled on me.
