    Great art, good story

    I enjoyed this immensely when it was originally published; re-reading it here again, I'm struck by how well the story has aged. Carlos Pacheco's art is pure class and he was at the top of his game here, for sure. Pacheco handles the changing cast of characters and frenetic action with aplomb. Kurt Busiek's writing is not too shabby, either; it doesn't approach the heights of "Astro City" but then again not much does. Charged by Marvel with "fixing" the Avenger's covoluted, confusing, and oft-times contradictory history, Busiek weaves a tale that rewards long-time Marvelites, but might be more than a little daunting for the Avengers novice. For this comic-book lover, this was some ambitious story-telling from two masters and was well worth the read (or re-read). The heavy reliance on Avengers history is what causes me to deduct the star, not for me mind you, but for the uninitiated who may find the story too complex or too hard to follow.

    Enough Avengers history to choke on!!!

    I love Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco both but this TPB was a little too much too swallow. I love the concept and some of the main ideas but at times there was just too much to wrap your head around. Add that to the ending have little to no effect on the Marvel Universe in general and you wonder if the story even matters.
