Avengers Vol. 2 is the definition of a mixed bag. The artwork is good, as is the concept of the story being told here. Unfortunately, author Jonathan Hickman seems to be attempting to convince the reader that he's writing an epic story rather than actually telling an epic story. The pages here are full of "Gotcha!" type moments and grandiose dialogue--a few of which actually do work well--but lack the substance and clarity beneath them to have real impact. In short, this makes the stories feel fragmented and difficult to follow. This is not a bad read, but also misses the mark set by other Marvel titles.
