I'm not reviewing the contents of AVENUE X, but I thought potential readers might appreciate brief summaries of the stories in the collection: Shadow Of The Asp: The secret history of the ancient world's most famous beauty. Without Sin: The Gospel of Joshua ben Joseph, God-Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The One-Eyed King: Having defeated the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood must now face a dark secret from his past. Cavalerada: A quartet of hired killers travel to a border town--too bad they arrived on the Day of the Dead. Billy Fearless: A Southern-fried tall tale about an young man too thick to be scared. Firetruck No. 5: He's a shady private investigator, she's a trophy wife--how could it not end in murder? The Thing From Lovers Lane: The year is 1957, and a pair of young lovers parked on a lonely road see something in the woods atop Goat Hill. A horror tale in the tradition of Lovecraft's 'Dunwich Horror' and 'The Blob'. Nominated for Best Novelette of 1996 by the Horror Writers Association. Thin Walls: A love story about Hell on Earth. Vampire King of the Goth Chicks: Sonja Blue is hot on the trail of a blood cult lead by a vampire--or is she? Someone's In the Kitchen: A ghostly cook leaves behind not-so-phantom food. Furies In Black Leather: A dark tale of lust, fetishism, sexual torture & revenge. The Land of the Reflected Ones: A Lovecraftian pastiche about what fills the mirror when nobody's looking. Avenue X: She was determined to leave her mark on the city, only to have it change her in ways she never dreamed possible.
