Gr 3–5—Future firefighters will relish this series, as it relates all of the most dangerous positions in the field. Each title begins by discussing a real-life emergency situation, then moves into the specific duties, training, tools, and dangers of the job. The authors incorporate many examples and situations, both successes and failures. The writing is interesting and includes bolded words that are found in the glossary. The layout is inviting, with full-color captioned photos, fact boxes, diagrams, headings, and large print text. Though the focus is narrow, overall, this is a very worthwhile series.

Every young person goes through the firefighter or aviation phas

Every young person goes through the firefighter or aviation phase in their childhood. For those torn between both areas of interest, there is the Airport Firefighter whose story is told most vividly in the new children's book, "Aviation Firefighters". One in a series of books about firefighters and the varied specialties of firefighting, this book will surely dazzle all youth. The book is cleverly laid out in a nice design and contains action-filled photographs that tell a story all on their own. The author, Nancy White, took great care to deliver timely and accurate information on the subject matter. Young readers can learn about real life incidents (and unfortunately some tragedies) that have occurred in aviation in the past. This can be helpful to those interested in journalism. It takes you to the scene and behind the scenes where it gives you a good view of Airport Firefighters' vehicles, equipment and the constant drills and training they must go through. I like how the author's story goes all over the world and at various US-based Aviation Fire Departments to divulge the inner workings of this heroic and noble profession. The yellow idea/concept boxes with the red firefighter's hat on every other page compliment the text effectively. In summary, "Aviation Firefighters" will immediately capture a young reader's attention, stir their imagination and increase their knowledge in a fun-filled way.
