Awakeningby Jackie Evancho
Pittsburgh native Jackie Evancho released her independent debut album, Prelude to a Dream, in 2010 when she was only ten years old, laying claim to the title of the world's youngest opera singer, and her appearances on the fifth season of NBC's America's Got Talent (she finished second) brought her a huge crossover audience. This set, her first for Sony Masterworks' Portrait Records and fifth album overall, was produced by Nick Patrick and features a mix of classical pieces, contemporary pop tunes, and a handful of originals.

Strength, precision, golden sweetness; soaring beauty. This is a quantum leap from her previous album. Jackie takes chances on "Awakening": the more difficult the song technically, the better she does. The echoing effect in the production can be heard as a flaw. It's a matter of personal taste. Still, she achieves great emotive power and makes low-range to high-range vocal shifts effortlessly. "Awakening" is a joy to play.
Big voice from a small young lady! The little prodigy that made good on her dream! This is absolutely a "must have album"!
Hey world, I love this CD, and so should you. Listen regularly and "live longer" . . . PS, blown away by "Memories"
Angelic voice! Amazing 14 year old Wunderkind! I love Je t'aime (I love you), Ave Maria, Vocalise, Dormi Jesu. A mixture of pop and classical. Wow! What a voice!
Jackie is a great natural talent, she is not a classically trained singer, nor does she try to sound like one, she has a lovely soft warm voice that has no harshness of any kind. This album is like listening to a beautiful young lady who is singing just because she loves to do so, her voice never sounds forced or unnatural, but smooth, delicate and precise. There is a good variety of tracks on this album, and I have found it has grown on me allot, there are some tracks that are stronger than others but all are good. Jackie is still only 14 but her voice shows allot of maturity.
I had my bring this CD to the hospital when I had my stroke and listened to it a lot. The entire hospital staff liked it.
Partly pop, partly classical, completely slow. There's so much reverb that it gets annoying and there's not enough variety to keep it interesting. She does have a pretty voice, but a voice alone doesn't make a good CD.
