Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
By the author's own admission, this book may seem "dry, schematic... unemotional," more instruction manual than heart-moving guide. Laitman comes from a very specific school of thought regarding Kabbalah, originating from a belief that his mentor, Baruch Ashlag, carried a reincarnated soul that originated with the biblical patriarchs, passed to the rabbi known as the Ari and finally to Ashlag's father, Baal HaSulam. Kabbalah, as Laitman sees it, requires one to "rise to the spiritual world while living in this world," but this "can only be achieved through the right study, with the real books" written by rabbis in this particular lineage. Unfortunately, his efforts to make Baal HaSulam relevant to our current times result in thin and sometimes contradictory arguments. In discussing the importance of the numbers seven and 70, for example, he refers to 70 nations in the world today (there are nearly 200) and an average life span of 70 years, which is too low both in fact and for his schema of the Messiah's return to make mathematical sense. More revealing of the exclusive, myopic nature of interpretation than of the world of Kabbalah, this guide will serve few readers other the followers of Baal HaSulam. (Jan.) Curious about Kabbalah?

This is a great book for those curious about what authentic Kabbalah is and is not. True to its title, this book is an awakening to Kabbalah versus a book to be studied. This book provides a solid overview of key Kabbalists throughout the ages, why now is the time to study Kabbalah, and what one can reasonably expect from one's own study of this ancient wisdom.

"on the learning of the Zohar there are no restrictions"

The very first page told me the remaining pages would be an education in understanding my world as well as my place in it.
The sage's statements about Kabbalah are worthy to be read again before each chapter of the book: "on the learning of the Zohar there are no restrictions" is a beautiful way to begin to study. Awakening to Kabbalah is a treasure of wisdom at my fingertips, helping move me from a stale version of life into the light of understanding the reason for "me", my life and the difficulties, lack of meaning and what real freedom consists of.
The book builds step by step from the 'beginning' to 'choosing my destiny'. And isn't that what it's all about? To learn the method of achieving equivalence with the Creator that becomes at once my goal and a way of life.
This little book is one everyone should read if they yearn for a better life, happiness and true peace.

How to attain the best state of existance possible!

My mind likes to keep information about interests in an organized state. I've read several books on Kabbalah from different authors, but this book stands out for me. My previous reading left me with holes on how Kabbalah developed, how kabbalah relates to our world, and the whys of certain concepts. After reading this book, I did get what the meaning of my life truely is and I can prioritize my life accordingly. This book showed me why I haven't felt close to God and the steps I can take to make that correction to connection. You know how a movie is really good when you're thinking about it days later. That's how this book is. There is tons of after thought. I want to know what is going on. Like Chapter 6, the actual outlined how. I've read it 3 times already and each time I pull out something I didn't see in the previous reading. This book for me was a consitantly smooth thought provoking read.

    start your engines

Through Rav Michael Laitman authentic Kabbalah is now being made available to all peoples of the world.
People, including scientists, that are asking the tough questions like, "what caused the 'big-bang'?" and "what is the meaning of my life?".
"Awakening to Kabbalah" starts the reader on his or her quest to find the answers to such questions. If the reader has been a "seeker" for some time this book goes a long way in showing that Kabbalah is the answer they have been looking for.

This will inspire you beyond measure!

Awakening to Kabbalah answered every question that I have ever asked regarding "What is the purpose of life", including those I never knew to ask. This book is well organized and the information is laid out so that it builds upon the information that was just given you in a previous chapter.Desire, intention, reincarnation, the meaning of a soul and surrounding light are just a few of the terms that are explained and then put into an action plan. I highly recommend this book.

    Spiritual Wisdom that Transforms

Awakening to Kabbalah is suitable to students of all levels because it can and should be read over and over. It addresses such basic questions like ¿what is the meaning of life?; why is there suffering in the world?; is there such a thing as reincarnation?; all from a Kabbalist point of view. This is an ancient wisdom whose time as come and may just provide the very answers that can save modern society from itself. There is no more important time than now to read this book and hear its message.

This book really struck a chord with me.

I have been always interested in spiritual teachings and have read books on Philosophy, religion and also the occult. None of the books I have read really satisfied my desires. I have searched for meaing in my life and spiritual direction but have never read anything that satisfied my desire. I had heard a little bit about Kabbalah and decided to read this book in attempt to learn more about it. I was simply blown away by the first chapter. The material contained within in the book simply captivated me. I couldn't put it down. I feel I have found something very special. I would really recommend this to anyone who searches for the meaning of their existence. They will be intrigued by this book.

    Delivers the 'Goods'!

This book delivers the ¿goods¿ if you are truly interested in spirituality and have a strong hunch that Kabbalah is the way to achieve it. It is a clear and basic introduction to the wisdom of Kabbalah. I have read many books on Kabbalah but this one offers a clarity that is almost crystalline in its approach. There is purity, an undiluted explanation of the science of Kabbalah minus all the new age gimmicks that lately seem associated with it. I was able to follow the rationale of why it is truly a science, why the world is in its current state (egoism) and what Kabbalah has to offer with regard to that (methodology to altruism). It has actually given me hope! I look forward to reading more from this author and intend to visit the website he mentions in the book.

Awakening to Kabbalah: The Guiding Light of Spiritual Fulfillment

For once, a book whose writer doesn't try to offer quick-fix medicine, doesn't tell you that you are beautiful, and most importantly, doesn't leave you with a feeling that he's trying to sell you something. Authentic Kabbalah at its best, pure, straightforward, respectful to the reader.

    The Best Book Yet

After reading so many books on Kabbalah and thinking I had to change my fashion sense with red strings and facial cream FINALLY the real thing! Its real, understandable, analysable, no thrills and frills, no religion, no mystic magic, no dreaming, no halusinations about angels! An absolutely amazing, easy to follow book that answers questions and looks at life from an absolutely different angle. Mr Michael Laitman has honestly and with all its purity explained the real thing. It was a great revelation!

Awakening to Kabbalah: The Guiding Light of Spiritual Fulfillment

This is the third book by Laitman that I have read, and certainly the best. As always, Laitman is direct, poignant, and intelligent. I was a bit disappointed with the editorial review. Clearly, it is a critique with an agenda, or someone who really hasn't read any other books of Laitman. Whatever the case may be, I highly recommend it for those who want to know a little more about why we are here and where we are going.

Pure Kabbalah - No Red Strings Attached

Rav Laitman distills the Wisdom of the Hidden in a manner which will lead you towards the ultimate spiritual high. Not by using charms or other physical objects of this world, but by using authentic, time tested kabbalistic spiritual strategies. Especially appealing to the most egoistic souls among us.
