Cornell’s cookbook of kid-friendly foods is easy to follow, ensuring that child readers will embrace her assurance that “You’re the chef!” While the ingredient lists may appear long, recipes use common ingredients found in most kitchens. The steps are clearly outlined for kid cooks’ ease. Illustrations show how to perform each step, and every recipe includes a photograph of the final product. Equipment needed is noted along the ingredients list, so all items can be organized prior to beginning preparation. Cornell incorporates illustrations of all of the cooking tools used in her book along with the name of each tool. A glossary provides definitions for the techniques used in each recipe, as well as a measuring guide. Cornell takes foods that kids love, such as chicken dippers, quesadillas, and pigs in a blanket, and gives a simple guide for making them from scratch. She also provided variations on some of the recipes to change the flavor, or to make it vegetarian or low-fat. Serving sizes, prep times and cooking times are noted.
