My 12 year old got the YO Yo book for Christmas. He has been working on the tricks almost every day. I like it because he is so busy learning the tricks, he forgets about his video games and that he is READING. Which is hard to get him to do with all the video games. I think this is something that everyone in the family would enjoy.
The string did not grip, and then the whole yo-yo just fell apart in our hands... all in the 1st day that my 6 year old got it for Christmas!!
There are a lot of Yo-Yo trick books on the market, but this one stands apart from the rest. The chapters on History, Types of Yo-Yos and Maintenance are great! The illustrations are great - tricks are explained using color photos. The history section has information I've not seen anywhere else, and the maintenance section covers fixed axle yo-yos as well as transaxle yo-yos. I found the Science chapter very informative and entertaining. The zoetrope of 'Time Warp' was a nice touch too. I would recommend this book to anyone that is interested in learning to yo-yo. Tricks go from the very basic one handed tricks to advanced two handed tricks. Tricks are explained in easy language and are graded according to difficulty (very helpful for the beginner looking to learn some new tricks).
Got this for my little cousin, he liked it. It's a good gift for a kid under 10. His little sister was interested in it too and it comes with 2 yo-yo's so he shared.
It would have been best to buy the book of yoyo tricks. It's informative, and lots of fun. But my kids were frustrated by the yoyos, which had flimsy, sticky string and did not work well. I had to buy them better yoyos on the side. In order to make it a kit, a box with plastic inserts houses the book and yoyos. It's a lot of packaging, and was discarded/recycled as soon as the kids opened the box.
