This work was written 20 years after SHE and interestingly enough the story starts the same 20 years later. However, the opening is slow and until Holly and his adopted son Leo Vincey reach the lamasery in the Tibetan Mountains the story is slow.Once this point is reached the reader will become involved in a literal war for Leo's love between Ayesha and the wife of the local Khan. Also H.Rider Haggard presumes you have read SHE and does not recap for those unfamiliar with Ayesha and Leo's back story. Like his original novel 20 years before the reader will enjoy high adventure. One point of interest to the film buff is that the setting of this novel and some scenes were incorporated into the 1935 film version of SHE by Merian C. Cooper who brought the classic 1933 film KING KONG to the screen.
