Sir Henry Rider Haggard was an English writer of adventure novels set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa, and a pioneer of the Lost World literary genre. Ayesha, the female protagonist of She, has been cited as a prototype by psychoanalysts such as Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. His most famous, King Solomon's Mines is a story that has universal interest, for grown-ups as well as youngsters.
