Critically-acclaimed and respected Brooklyn MC AZ returns to the hip-hop arena with Aziatic, his sophomore disc for Motown. The disc features a guest appearance by NAS, AZ's former partner-in-rhyme in the rap supergroup the Firm, on "The Essence."

Since teaming up with Nas on Illmatic, widely considered to be one of the greatest albums in hip-hop, AZ has been looked upon to do amazing things with his music. Has he lived up to those high expectations? On this album he has. From start to finish, the beats on this album are complex, inventive, and almost perfectly suited for AZ's style of rhyming. He's carefully crafted this album rather than slapped it together overnight to meet his quota, and it shows. It helps immensely that he's brought along people like DR Period, Az Izz, Nas, and Buckwild, but they don't outshine the younger AZ and he holds his own well. One problem that AZ has always had is that he lives in the shadow of his work in the mid -'90s. There's a new era of hip-hop fans who may not know him as well as the rest, but he's done well to reach out and offer the new generation something as well. There aren't just the thuggish tracks, but also some tracks suitable for the club and the ladies, such as "Take It Off." Lyrically, musically, and historically, AZ has come up with his best work in a long time on this album. The biggest complaint is the length of the LP, with only three songs going over four minutes. Why he would make such a great album and end it short is beyond comprehension.

    AZiatic considered for classic!

    AZiatic is definitely a gotta have for any true hip hop fan. His lyrics are well thought out and the joint with Nas is off the hook. AZ has been one of the nicest lyricist ever since his debut on Illmatic.

    AZ: Coming out of Nas's Shadow

    AZ is the best story teller in the buisness today. Ever since the death of Biggie Smalls and Tupac(R.I.P), AZ has been the most creative and believable story teller. This album is AZ's best album since Doe or Die. The lead single, Im Back, has the4 best instrumental of the album. AZ is a strong lyrical talent, who is even better with new and improved production. After four albums AZ is just getting started. Don't count him out of the the top 10 just yet.

    AZ "moving to an eastside arpartment"

    AZ is one of the gretest MC out there besides Nas. He can really write some tight lyrics. Every track on this record is "that" great well thought through. Definitly the best album off the year if you ask me. Numbers like "Paradise" and "The essence" makesme shiver. But these are just a small bit of the album, because all the tracks except for a few could recieve "best track of the year award". Please bring us a new album Az. He needs a little respect from the hip hop industry and the world. You should really check this album out if you like Nas or Mos Def.

    Az = Greatest Lyricist

    the lp is off the hook. i heard it and its great. the man has a tight flow that is elaborate in telling stories; just verbalizing he can bring life to a still picture. great lp. from front to back its incredible.
