    I Also Recommend:

All the humor and charm in one condensed package

Azumanga Daioh is pretty much what all slice-of-life stories should aspire to be. Each character is quirky and nuanced in such a balanced way as to avoid being cartoony and overblown, and in fact somewhat easy to relate to. It's also one of the more humorous, as well as heartwarming, series I've read in my time. The beauty of having the whole series compiled into one book is the ability to see the progression of the character designs over time. Case in point: The pigtails of the shorter girl on the cover originally weren't as rounded off as they later became. However, the sheer size of the book also makes it difficult to carry while traveling, making it more ideal for placement on the coffee table. Fans of the anime series should definitely pick this up as there are many excellent scenes in the manga that didn't make it into the show. Of all the manga I received for Christmas this past year, this one is easily my favorite.

    Extremely Funny!

I've reread this book about 50 times because it never gets old. It's laugh-out-loud funny, and the characters are so realistically hilarious it's amazing. Highly recommended.
