B Is for Buckeye is a book I found on the shelf of our library while looking for books for our younger son when we lived in Dayton, OH. It is a 37-page alphabet book written by Marcia Schonberg and illustrated by Bruce Langton. After I came home, I picked it up and looked over it and decided my older son Mark, who was then in fourth grade and studying Ohio history, could benefit from it as well. The main part of the page is a picture with a phrase like "B is for buckeye" and tells you something about it. Each letter also has a side column giving historical facts which would help a student studying Ohio history. Mark, who can be particular about what he reads, said that he liked it and found it very interesting. The day he read it, the Dayton Daily News had an article featuring the book. I would recommend it for supplementing a child's Ohio history study. Even those of us who never studied Ohio history (because we were born and raised elsewhere) may find it interesting reading. Our younger son Jeremy, who was then four and couldn't read yet, had it read to him. When he saw me looking at it and I came to "O" he remembered that page and said, "This one is tricky." It reads, "O! This one is tricky! See if you can guess: What's round on the ends and 'hi' in the middle? OHIO!"

This is a fantastic book for both people living in Ohio and Ohio fans! This spin on the traditional ABC book teaches about Ohio history and trivia. Each letter is exemplified by something Ohio-related and an in-depth article is provided in the side bar. The illustrations are fantastic. We live in Florida, but my 4 year old loves learning about where his grandparents live!
