Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
Five white woolly sheep feature prominently in this story, and they begin by peering out of holes cut into the book's cover. Each little lamb has a slightly different appearance. One looks up, one looks down, one looks sad, and two are smiling. The sheep faces are the primary feature of this book, which has just twelve spreads. The text of the tale runs along the bottom of the pages. It begins with Mama sheep calling her little lambs home for dinner. For the next three pages, all five little sheep faces appear in their round holes on the inside pages as they finish dinner, do their chores and are told that it is time for bed. Then, as one by one the sheep go off to sleep, the number of holes with sheep decreases on every other page. Finally, on the last page, they are all in bed asleep.
