Mary Roberts Rinehart (August 12, 1876-September 22, 1958) was an American writer, often called the American Agatha Christie.[1] She is considered the source of the phrase "The butler did it", although she did not actually use the phrase. She is considered to have invented the "Had-I-But-Known" school of mystery writing. She also created a costumed supercriminal called "the Bat," who was cited by Bob Kane as one of the inspirations for his "Batman."

    One of my favorite books. "Bab" is hilarious! She gets into all kinds of mischief as a result of her family trying to keep her a child or "sub-deb" while she is almost a debutante. Set in pre World War I days, it contains aspects of the growing independence of women at that time as well as a feel for the national patriotism that was evident in days leading up to the war. The book deliberately contains misspelled words as Bab insists that she is great at spelling. The ARose Books publication is NOT a scanned copy, but a newly designed and edited book with newly created, custom illustrations not in the original. The Nook version is based on the paperback and carefully edited as well.
