Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
The fast-paced story of an extraordinary pig that wants to be a sheepherder. Ages 912. (April)
Children's Literature - Mary Clayton Rowen
This is the amazing story of a pig named Babe. When the Large White pig arrives at the Hogget farm, Fly, the sheepdog, adopts him. Unbelievably, Babe exhibits a talent for sheep herding. Can this talent be enough for him to save the sheep from rustlers or to win the Grand Challenge Sheepdog Trials? An appealing story for the animal lover that has recently been made into a movie, it is reminiscent of Charlotte's Web.
Children's Literature - Jan Lieberman

This story is about a pig who is won at a fair by a farmer and his wife (Mr. hogget and Mrs.hogget). Mr. hogget has a sheep-dog. She is a collie (girl dog) and her name is Fly. Fly was explaing to her pupps that pigs, ducks, and sheep were stupid. But when Fly saw Babe, she thougt that he did not look stupid at all. A few months later Fly's pupps were sold. Babe was the only young'n there so she decided to take care of him. When he was a bit older Fly let him chase ducks.THen with his kindness he became a wonderful sheeppig.

In this book, Babe was a very generous pig! After Mr. Hogget won Babe, he was very shy until Babe met Fly. Fly was his so called mom, which was a dog. A couple of days later, Babe saw his mom doing her daily job which was to be a sheep-dog, so Babe decided that he wanted to be a sheep-pig. A little later in the week, Babe was doing his daily job, and there was alot of commotion by the herd of sheep. No sooner the herd of sheep was crowded around a sheep, Babe scared away the angry dogs. Mr. Hogget came running with Fly by his side. To find out more you can find this at your local library!
