Overview

Little babies like to look at other little babies—and this multicultural group of adorable infants is simply irresistible. Gyo Fujikawa captures them enjoying their bottles, playing with toys and each other, sweetly napping, and above all GROWING! Sometimes they’re naughty (spilling their water, refusing to share) and sometimes they act like little angels. But most important, Babies reminds us that, good or bad, all children need plenty of cuddling, hugs, and love.

Gyo Fujikawa is one of the truly great preschool book artists. Her soft style of painting is pleasing and always interesting—you can visit the illustrations again and again without getting bored. In Babies she has given us a bundle of babies busy doing what babies do. As in all her books, Fujikawa's baby landscapes portray many different ethnic groups.

    Babies loved to be cuddled

This has been a family favorite since I was young. As the oldest of eleven children I would watch my mother read this to the little ones. As she read she would give them hugs, cuddles, and love at the appropriate times through the book. I now do so with my children. They not only love being read to, but that extra special attention.

    soothe your child immediately

My mom said this was my favorite book when I was a baby. (I didn't remember it though) 28 years later, she gave the same book to me to read to my baby girl. A thoughtful gift turned out to be the only saving grace from a crying fit. I'm not kidding, if my daughter has a meltdown, reading 'Babies' calms her down immediately. She's over a year now and it has worked 98% of the time. Hope it works the same for you!!

    Awesome!

This was the favorite book of all 5 of my children. Adorable illustrations and simple text. Now it is my go to book for baby showers.

Gyo Fujikawa is a wonderful artist for childrens books

I would recommend any book that this author has done. My daughter and I read this book until it fell apart. She still would not part with it. I bought new copies for my son and daughter to read to their children. Greast for babies and through preschool.

    A must-have classic

A friend of mine bought this book for my son, John, when he was a baby.
She explained that when she read it to her son and got to the part that says, "But good or bad, all babies like to be hugged and cuddled and loved," she would hug on her son as he sat in her lap.
I did that with John and his younger brother, Scott, whether they remember it or not!
They're 19 and 15 now, but we still have the original book. I always give this book as a baby gift, no matter what else I buy!

    Best Baby Shower Present Ever

I received this at the baby shower for my first daughter 25 years ago by someone who said it was her child's favorite book. I've given it at every baby shower I've been to ever since. She was right - it was my daughters' favorite book when they were little. I have received rave reviews from all parents about how much their children love it. They especially like the pages on babys' laughing and crying - read with lots of expression. It is a great book and my 2 daughters and my husband and I (and the other parents) can recite it from memory to this day. 'Babies are very little, soft, warm and cuddly, . . .'

    Excellent book!

I can remember my Mom reading this story to me, and how I loved the pictures. I bought a copy for my daughters when they were babies, and then a copy as a gift for my Niece who is now 2 and loves the book. Excellent book, for every child to see. Love Gyo Fujikawa's books and will continue to buy them.

    FAVORITE BABY BOOK

My kids were given this book when they were little and it was one of their very favorites and now it is a favorite of my granddaughters. My copy is so worn that I had to tape it. I now like to give it as a gift to soon to be parents as well as a newborn gift. The illustrations are precious and it is the kind of book that wants to be read over and over again. I feel a little bad that the new book is somewhat shorter than the old one (it has eliminated several pages) but it is still well worth it.

    "Babies" is perfect for babies!

I purchased this board book for my 15 month old who is fascinated with books about babies. She loves it! Gyo Fujikawa's exquisite illustrations depict a diverse collection of babies in a wide variety of baby activities.
As a kindergarten teacher I love how this book provides opportunities for my daughter to explore pictures of things that are familiar to her, practicing and expanding her vocabulary. She loves to look for the "kitties", "puppies", and "duckies" and talk about the bathtime, feeding, and dressing pictures.
With another baby on the way this book is also great for talking about siblings. There are lots of sweet pictures of big sisters and brothers hugging and kissing younger siblings, and just a variety of babies loving on each other. An excellent book for babies!

    Since I was a child...

BABIES by Gyo Fujikawa has been in our family since I was a child. I added it to our collection when I had my two children. It is always included in baby shower gifts (along with Chugga Chugga Choo Choo, Goodnight Moon, and Snuggle Puppy).
Babies and young children LOVE seeing and hearing about other babies. This book has always been on the much loved, "read-again" pile; being in boardbook format is an added bonus.

    Favorite from my childhood

This is such a sweet book! Pictures of babies doing everyday things - playing, getting a diaper change, being naughty, being 'little angels' - and simple text to go along. I love the last page: '...but good or bad, all babies liked to be hugged, and cuddled, and loved.'
