Children's Literature - Lisa Kuehne
If you want a child to read something enjoyable yet educational, Kalman's "Habitats" series is right up your alley. This title focuses on animals living in a grassland environment and explores common questions including: what is a community and what is a food chain? Children learn about mammal mothers, prairie carnivores, eating plants, underground homes, and prairie weather conditions. Multiple baby animals such as coyotes, prairie dogs, bobcats, falcons, and bison are center stage in this delightful book. Kalman has given us an easy to understand explanation about life on the prairie. This book is the ultimate package—entertaining and enjoyable. Young children are sure to love her animal pictures and creative descriptions. The only problem with this book is do not be surprised if your children suddenly want to move to a grassland habitat to see their newly discovered friends. Thank goodness there is a thing called a zoo. Reviewer: Lisa Kuehne
