Overview

Raffi is the king of children's performers, and with good reason. His unerring instinct for subjects that captivate young kids, his catchy melodies, and endearing voice account for a big part of his renown. And his overarching respect for children as human beings is absolutely vital to Raffi's appeal, too. All these elements are in play in BABY BELUGA, one of the best-loved of all Raffi's albums. The title track, a sweet and simple salute to a small white whale and its environment, is already a classic. In fact, BABY BELUGA is chock-full of Raffi favorites, including the sprightly farming tune "Oats and Beans and Barley," the laid-back hymn of gratitude "Thanks a Lot," and the multilingual friendship tune "To Everyone in All the World." The Raffmeister also covers venerable children's songs such as "Day O," "Over in the Meadow," "Kumbaya," and "This Old Man." Especially heartwarming is album closer "Morningtown Ride," by folk legend Malvina Reynolds ("Little Boxes"), a dear lullaby that compares a night's slumber to a dawn-bound train ride. BABY BELUGA should be a keystone of any family music library.

This was a favorite of my children who are now having children. So I had to get it for my grandchildren. The songs are catchy and you will find yourself singing the songs even when the CD is not on. Every child should have some Raffi music to enjoy!

I know, other people have written about how their kids love this album, but my 2 yr old didnt, and neither did I. If you want Raffi songs that are much more fun to listen to, sing along with, and dance to, try his Singable Songs for Kids.

don't listen to the other reviews on this site. Baby Beluga or any other album by the parent's nightmare, Raffi, is awful. My children don't seem to like it and I had to sit through it in the car. His voice is extremly annoying and umpleasnt. I think rasing your children on the classics as i did brings them to apprecatite good music when thier older instead of humming Joshua girraffe as they go to kindergarden!

Although my kids are 13 and 11, listening to Raffi brings back the memories of when they were so small I could carry both of them, one in each arm. I ordered this CD and for Christmas, we'll sit around and listen to his songs and remember those years long gone.

As a mom to a 3-year-old and 1-year-old, Baby Beluga has become my favorite, as well as the favorite of my children. Baby Beluga is the perfect blend of silly songs that are great for dancing, lyrics that help build their vocabulary, and lullaby-type songs for winding down. I had to buy a new cassette-we played the original so much, we wore it out! A must-have on CD for the car as well. We love Raffi in general but Baby Beluga is the best!

If you want to have a good cd to listen to get Baby Beluga. It has really good songs that our outstanding Joshua Giraffe is my favorite song with it's little beat you need this music. We have just the tape at our house now but are going to buy the cd to listen to since our tape player busted.

I am ordering this CD for my 7 and 9 year old daughters. We had this on tape when they were younger, but got rid of it along with a lot of other wonderful music that I thought we had outgrown. I wish I had kept the tape b/c my kids have been asking me to play it a lot lately. They have been trying to remember the lyrics to Joshua Giraffe (their favorite on the tape). I am a stay at home mom, and I do quite a bit of ferrying children (both my own, and their friends) around town. My kids and their friends all seem to have great memories of this tape. They are no longer too old for the songs that they listened to in their baby years, and feel great affection for it. I wish I had held on to my old copy!

My boyfriend just got finished singing this song for me. He told me about this record that he had when he was little. I thought I'd see if I could find it on the net and lo and behold this is it. This song is so fun and cute it lasted 17 yrs. in his memory and made me an instant fan! Yea, Baby Beluga!

We had 3 boys and 1 girl in 5 years, and this tape was wonderful. Our daughter is now 24 years old and her boyfriend's name is Josh. She was singing it to him recently and she can still remember most of the words. He has never heard of it, so we are buying him the CD. Some things remain in your heart forever. I want to have a copy around for grandchildren someday.

It's been 20 years since I listened to this album, and now I find myself buying it as much for myself as for my niece and nephew. Raffi instills love and patience in children everywhere, and his message will stay with them forever, I hope. 'All I really need is a song in my heart, food in my belly, and love in my family.'
