The lilting rhyme offers reassurance to any baby, "Baby Cakes, Baby Cakes, I love you!" Normally one would expect to see parents smooching, nibbling on feet, bouncing and hugging their little ones on their laps, but Wilson gives the traditional rhyme a little twist. He shows a variety of babies—boys and girls of various ethnicities kissing, hugging, and playing with their favorite toys, which tend to be stuffed animals. So we see a cute redhead bouncing a teddy bear and clapping, while an Oriental baby in green pajamas laughs while he reads a story to his teddy bear. It is a charming book and one that kids should enjoy having read to them quite a few times. The art is deceptively simple looking—with just a few strokes and water colors, Wilson is able to depict each of these babies and their emotions.

    Love It

    My 10 month old son absolutely adores this book, and has since he was five months old. The rhyming scheme is fluid, not choppy, and it's easy to develop a soothing rhythm as you read. The text also incorporates sound words (ha ha ha, la la la, etc.), which is very appealing to infants just beginning to repeat sounds. But by far my favorite feature of this book is the diversity of its characters. The skin tones and facial features of the children are simply gorgeous. As a former elementary school librarian, I can honestly say that there are very few board books that blend superior text, captivating art, and diversity in the smooth and natural way that this book does. Highly, highly recommended!

    The Perfect Book to Begin the Journey of Reading

    This book has been both my nieces favorite since the first time I read it to them. The oldest is 3 and I read this to her when she was about six months it has been her favorite ever since. This book is a great way to get your little one into reading. I recommend this book for all toddlers because it is so fun and the pictures really grab their attention. It's also catchy and short so it also great on their short attention spans. I have only one con about this book. That is that my nieces never want to hear it once, they want it over and over again.

    Our absolute favorite!

    Love it so much I bought multiple copies to give as gifts for showers and new babies. We received ours as a gift! Delightful and engaging. My daughter learned body parts, actions (clap, laugh, bounce, etc). Everyone loves reading it to her! Truly delightful little book!

    Our Favorite

    My 15 month old twins LOVE this book. It has been their favorite since we first started reading. The sing- songy text makes it easy for them to recognize it and their little faces light up when they realize which book it is. Now I give it as a shower gift all the time, for others to enjoy.
