Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Forget all those child-rearing books. Everything you need to know about baby care is contained in this charming little picture book. A gentle rhyming text with only two words and one activity on most pages follows a loving bear family through baby's day. Mama and Papa play traditional baby games, like peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake; give baby a bath; take baby for a stroller ride; read a story; and, finally, put baby to bed. Soft fuzzy pastels surrounded by generous white space successfully capture the expressions of loving parents and a happy, contented baby. The soothing familiarity of infant routines make this a warm and cuddly book to share with young children, especially at bedtime. A wonderfully simple joyous celebration of babyhood. 2006, Boyds Mills Press, Ages 2 to 4.

PreS-The creators of Love Me, Love You (Boyds Mills, 2001) repeat that book's style, using simple, short rhymes to take listeners through a cub's day. "Baby high/Baby low/Baby fast/Baby slow...." Both parents participate in bubble blowing, upsy-daisy, and daily routines. Spowart's pastel portraits with little detail float in white space. The calming colors and minimal text will yield successful lap-sit readings.-Gay Lynn Van Vleck, Henrico County Library, Glen Allen, VA Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
O'Keefe offers a genuine book for babies that is not a board book or a gimmicky format. Rhyming text of two to four words per spread pithily describes a day with a baby bear and its parents: "Baby laugh. / Baby cry. / Baby wet. / Baby dry. Baby work is never done. / Good thing baby work is fun." Spowart's simple, soft-edged pastels set against white backgrounds illustrate baby playing peek-a-boo, eating in a high chair, blowing bubbles, undressing for bed and being read to by mama and papa. Blanket cozy, as tickling as counting piggy toes and as sweet as "kissy-poo," this treat calls out for a rocking chair, a lap and a baby. These three bears are "just right" for repeated enjoyment.
