Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The photographs of real ducks fit the text so well that one wonders what came first—the pictures or the text. Regardless, young children will enjoy seeing these baby animals, especially the four fluffy yellow ducks featured in this story. They are on an outing with their mother, but one, who is a little slow, trails behind. He soon catches up with his siblings, and in the end, all the ducklings are happy and safely nestled around mama. Kids may be surprised to see that mama is a large white duck with a big orange outline around her vigilant eyes. The photographs are excellent, and kids will be able to see close up what a baby duck and a full grown one look like. If you cannot go to the park or an animal farm, this series of "Baby Animals" board books may be the next best thing. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
