Barnes & Noble - Amy Barkat
The latest in Baby Einstein's lauded classical music series, Baby Galileo celebrates a day in the life of your baby -- from playtime to lunchtime to sleepytime. On this elegant disc, the movements are pared down to their most basic structure, and the tones and sounds, delivered by a soothing mix of strings, brass, and keyboards, are all baby-friendly. The first suite captures the essence of an exciting day with spirited selections. The disc opens with an orchestral tune-up that hints at the wild possibilities that lie ahead, complete with bird chirps and a rooster crow at the very end. Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A is a whimsical accompaniment to the day's activities, ...

Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A is a whimsical accompaniment to the day's activities, bringing to mind a busy honeybee at work -- or a baby at play! The cheerful Sleeping Beauty Waltz from Tchaikovsky is sure to get chubby baby legs dancing and energized, as will Mozart's stirring "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik." The suite finishes, and a baby's busy day ends, with Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony, a grand finale filled with impressive percussion. The Night Sky Suite lulls listeners into dreamland, with crickets and the classic "Twinkle Twinkle" arranged by Weisbach. Following that -- appropriately, and rather dramatically -- Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata unfolds, expressing the awesome sight of a darkening sky, as dusk turns to night. This suite is perfect for naptime or bedtime, as the calming music will pacify even the most agitated baby. With a slumberous pace -- Chopin's Nocturne in F, No. 2 and Brahms's popular "Lullaby" -- the disc winds down, capturing the ideas of Galileo's universe, celebrating the twinkling of stars, and offering sweet dreams to every baby.
