Overview

In keeping with the rest of the Baby Einstein series, Baby Santa features classic holiday music performed on a mix of toy, electronic, and orchestral instruments. The album is divided into two parts: the "Holiday Music Festival," which includes playfully arranged versions of "Jingle Bells," "Silent Night," and "Joy to the World," as well as holiday songs from around the world and a few classical pieces. Two pieces from two different Mozarts are included: Leopold Mozart's whimsical "Toy Symphony" and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "German Dance No. 3 'Sleigh Ride,'" both of which fit the quietly playful and festive air of the album. Some of the carols that are performed in different musical styles -- such as "Joy to the World [Reggae Style]" and "Jingle Bells [Samba Style]" -- don't work quite as well as the other tracks, but they're still fairly entertaining. The international holiday songs fare much better, ranging from the playful but authentic "Hanukkah Medley" to the gentle beauty of the French holiday classic "Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella." Germany's "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" would make a perfect holiday lullaby, while Japan's "Oshogatsu" is a lovely start to a new year. Part two of Baby Santa is a "Holiday Concert for Little Ears," which surrounds excerpts of "The Nutcracker Suite" with Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 4" and Beethoven's "Symphony No. 9." A nice mix of tradition and creativity, Baby Santa is a charming children's holiday album that can also be appreciated by more playfully-minded adults.
