In a season of first experiences, what will the fi rst gift from Baby Elf be? With soft pastels glowing red and green, Jane Cowen-Fletcher illuminates the magic of the holidays, magnified through a little one's eyes.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
This darling book of a baby elf discovering Christmas has no mention of the religious story but captures the spirit behind it. The baby elf wears green pajamas with red trim and a red, tasseled hat with green polka dots. He opens a beribboned box to find a pet mouse. The mouse continues with him as he sings "jolly" songs, is awed by a Christmas tree lighted by fairies, and is unsure of a huge "Santa's knee." He scatters colored sprinkles over star-shaped, frosted Christmas cookies, which are to be given away. His first Christmas hug and kiss go to his mouse. Under a ceiling of mistletoe, the parents clasp baby and mouse between them. Christmas is merrier with baby elf. These elves are distinguished by ear flaps. The pictures of the captivating elf are integral to the rhymed verses. Parents will enjoy reading and talking about the pictures with their little elves. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
Children's Literature - Mary Quattlebaum
Tots will relish this board book with its gentle rhymes and bright pictures. The book opens with a wide-eyed baby elf befriending a cheery mouse. Each double-page spread then explores an age-appropriate way of preparing for the holiday, from singing jolly songs to baking cookies to presenting a tasty gift. The book ends with Baby Elf giving his "own first Christmas hug and kiss" to his new pet. Known for her Baby Angels, author/illustrator Jane Cowen-Fletcher brings her trademark expressiveness to this depiction of a tyke bedecked in red and green. Reviewer: Mary Quattlebaum
