Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Animal young grow up before readers' eyes in Baby Farm Friends by Jeanie Lee. A combination pull-tab/flip-book allows readers to watch a chick ("I chirp and hop and peck") grow into a chicken, a calf into a cow, and a pup into a full-grown golden retriever. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Now this is a moveable book that is a bit different than most and offers kids an opportunity to learn both visually and through the text. The baby farm animals (chick, lamb, piglet, and calf) look out from the cover with bemused expressions. The only one not shown is the puppy who, of course, may be found in other places than a farm. The way the book works is clever; the spread announces what the animal is: "I'm a little chick." Then there is more text describing what the chick does: "I chirp and hop and peck." Then there is a little bit of a teaser, which describes what will happen when the chick grows up. Pulling the flap shows the chick as it grows up and becomes a full size chicken. It is clever, educational, and fun—great as a personal purchase but not one for a school or library since it probably will not stand up to heavy use or circulation. 2006, Little Simon/Simon & Schuster, Ages 2 to 5.
