Parents try to understand their children's needs and desires-but sometimes, they just can't figure them out. And that can lead to frustration for both the adult and the baby. Giving very young children the tools to express themselves can alleviate this unhappy situation-and make youngsters feel proud of themselves. Teach them the signs in this appealing collection and, before long, they'll be asking for help, requesting some juice and cereal, saying they want a nap, and (best of all) letting you know they'd love a nice, big hug. Great book for Beginning Speakers.

This book was really engaging to my 2 year old, and my 4 year old wanted to do the signs along with us. It is simple and easy to understand, it makes it easy for you to teach a child the signs and get them to understand them. It was also useful to us becuase it was the wants my child had that were the most frustrating to her when we couldn't understand her. She has now started saying the words with the signs, the magic of communication. We love it.

Best ASL books for little ones!

My toddler loves this book. It has been her favorite since she was 10 months old and started imitating the signs from the photos. We have all three in the series and hope more come out so she can continue signing with the babies in them! The baby I nanny for is starting to sign now too.

    A Wonderfully Helpful Tool

I've always found books that show signs through photographs to be more helpful than books full of line drawings. This book is full of helpful photos of signs to help you and your baby communicate. I'd definitely recommend this to moms and dads who want to communicate with their babies through the beauty of sign language.

Baby Fingers: I'm Feeling . . .: Teaching Your Baby to Sign

We just received Baby Fingers: I'm Feeling, Baby Fingers: I Want, and Baby Fingers: Teaching Your Baby to Sign as a gift pack for our 6 month old's first Christmas. We are so very excited to start learning the signs, and our baby already loves looking at the pictures. They are bright, colorful, and adorable. The written description of the signs helps us to follow along as well, and model for him.

    I Believe....

That all children should learn sign language. This book is a wonderful starting tool and reminder. We us it and Sign Language for Kids (also Heller) at our day care and after school care program.

Great for signing and non-signing babies!

This book is great because: (1) It teaches American Sign Language words. (If you're going to teach your child to sign, they might as well be learning a real language rather than made up baby signs.) (2) Even if you're not teaching your baby to sign, babies love to look at pictures of other babies. Our daughter LOVES this book.

    Could be better

I like the clear, simple photos of kids making the signs, but I think the book would be better if there was also a picture of the object to help make the connection to the English word. If the child is signing 'cat', there should be a picture of a cat.
