Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Children are always attracted to baby animals, and those who love lions will be interested in this book, which documents the many struggles that baby lions face. Written and photographed by a husband and wife team with extensive experience writing for children and adults, this book is full of engaging photographs of lions in action. The couple spent many weeks following the animals to produce a photo documentary of what life is like for the young cubs. The text is brief, yet detailed and describes the actions of the accompanying photographs. The author makes clear the hardships the pride often faces when the mother is unable to find food for several days. Overall, this is a well-written account of the pride and will give children great understanding of what life is like for these majestic animals of Africa. This would make a great addition to any animal library collection and would be useful for classrooms studying African animals. The book includes a table of contents, an index, and a Did You Know? section, along with biographies of the author and photographer. 2002, Fitzhenry & Whiteside, Caudill
