…is money. Security. An education. A home. Harley Emerson might be a crack mechanic, but a false conviction makes jobs hard to come by. She has no family and few friends. Jake's proposition offers her a way to get what she needs. But before she'll agree to have his baby, Harley insists on two things: a marriage of convenience and an "old-fashioned" conception.

What they find…

…is love. Neither of them expected it. Neither knows what to do with it. But sometimes plans change—for the better. Sometimes you need more than you want—and want more than you need.

Jake and Harley's story was very endearing. I like the strenght in both characters. I was rooting for their success.

A new author to watch for!

Susan Gable is one of Harlequin's hot new authors! If you enjoy a marriage of convenience plot (this one has a fun, new twist!) and love a good romance, this book is hard to beat. With a strong, determined heroine anyone would be happy to count as a best friend, and a handsome hero who knows exactly what he wants, THE BABY PLAN makes for an enjoyable page turner. Susan Gable has a smooth writing voice that makes her story a true page-turner. And be sure to look for Susan's next book, available this summer!

The Baby Plan is a great romance!

The Baby Plan by Susan Gable is a romantic twist on the popular marriage-of-convenience story with an engaging surrogate mother storyline thrown in. Jake Manning, the hero, wants a baby of his own and ends up with much more than he bargained or could have hoped for. Harley Emerson, who's had more bad breaks than a bag of crushed potato chips, agrees to take on the role of surrogate mom to Jake's baby. Jake draws up a contract, but the stubborn Harley has a few conditions of her own. What they end up with is the ever-after type of love and a baby to boot. I highly recommend this book.

    Super Romance

Harley Emerson is one of the most unique heroine I have ever run across in a romance novel. Having been tested by life over and over again, she is full of spunk, exuding independence, yet still sensitive and insecure. The yearning of her heart is to belong, to be part of a family, to be accepted without judgment. Jake Manning is a hero any woman would drool over, sexy, responsible, good with kids. Previous relationships have been a bust and though his heart may be involved, he¿s afraid to take the chance on history repeating itself. An emotional ride, The Baby Plan gets you involved with the characters. When Harley cries, you want to join her. Very realistic and believable. A definite must-read.

You won't be able to put this one down!

I read Susan Gable's THE BABY PLAN and fell in love immediately! The heroine, Harley Emerson, is spunky, determined, admirable and touchingly vulnerable. And Jake Manning is the perfect match for her! This couple's journey of love, self-discovery and happiness is done very well. The book brims with emotion. At times poignant and heart-tugging, it also has moments of humor and true-to-life child-rearing episodes that make it a sheer delight to read. Plan some time for this one, it'll keep you glued to the chair until the very end! This one is a keeper on my shelf!

    more from this reviewer

    entertaining contemporary romantic family drama

Architect Jake Manning seems to have everything going with a career that has earned him respect and women who desperately want him. However, Jake feels incomplete as if he is missing out on the most important aspects of life. He realizes what he covets and concludes that raising a baby would make his life perfectly complete. As he does in business, the bachelor develops a baby plan since adoption agencies reject his application. Jake decides mechanic Harley Emerson would be the ideal mother to birth his child though he will pay her to stay out of their lives afterwards. However, Harley craves respectability and security that Jake can provide her. She tenders a counteroffer of a marriage of convenience. Reluctantly, he agrees, but neither expected to fall in love with one another especially when the matchmaker has yet to be born. On the surface, this contemporary romance sounds inane with its marriage of convenience, male biological clock ticking theme. However, the lead couple makes the tale worth reading as their needs seem quite different but are actually the same which leads to a passionate relationship novel. Readers who enjoy a family drama will take imminent delight in Susan Gable¿s delectable THE BABY PLAN. Harriet Klausner

Superior writing with well thought out characters

This is one author who can write. Words are Susan Gable's forte - she has a clear, crisp writing style and provides the reader with vivid imagery. This is so much more than your HEA romance. Her main characters are real people, full of their own fears and insecurities, hopes and dreams: Harley, the female mechanic, who just can't quite seem to catch a break, and Jake, the architect, suffering from 'empty next syndrome'. Perhaps an unlikely pairing, but be prepared to enjoy the ride as you become involved in their story.
