Overview

BABY SHARK (Baby Shark series book #1) by Robert Fate
Anthony Finalist at Bouchercon

In October 1952, late one night in a roadside pool hall out west of Abilene, a pool hustler is murdered by a gang of thugs, who then beat and sexually assault his seventeen-year-old daughter, and leave her for dead in a burning building.

But she doesn’t die, and, as a rule, in the 1950s, a good girl like Kristin Van Dijk wouldn’t admit being raped—and she’d never seek revenge for her father’s murder. But Kristin, unfortunately for the thugs, is a girl who doesn’t play by the rules.

And so begins the first book of the Baby Shark series.

“It’s just business,” Sarge, her “close work” instructor, tells her. But Kristin knows that words like business, work, and jobs are Sarge’s way of talking about killing. Albert, who teaches her about guns, says, “Stop a man,” instead of kill him.

Kristin knows what they’re teaching her to do, though no one is saying it straight out. So, she begins to see herself as an actress, a dangerous actress, full of deceit and lethal skills as she becomes Baby Shark.

"I took BABY SHARK, by Robert Fate, into the bath. Big mistake. When I came up for air, the water was frigid, my skin resembled a chicken, and I'm stuck reading this until I finish it tonight. AMAZING book!"

"Will have your pulse racing, your heart pounding, and leave you breathless until the very end."
Penn and Teller
"Baby Shark is such a sexy, cool character –– I'm in love."

"Wonder how long it will take movie producers to get hold of these rights?"

This debut book, Baby Shark, starts off fast ¿ one night of violence and murder that ultimately leads to the birth - creation is probably a better word - of Baby Shark, a teenage girl who survives the chaos. As a reader, you know what the book will be about. You know that the 17-year old girl who walked into the pool hall with her dad will eventually take not just the name Baby Shark but revenge on the men who left her scarred and fatherless. It¿s not necessarily the destination that keeps you reading, but the road you travel with her to get there. And by the end of the book, you¿re anxious to see where she¿ll go next.

Robert Fate has created something new, and it is not for sissies. Baby Shark had things happen to her that should have killed her, or rather killed ten ordinary people. Somehow, the unconventional love and lifestyle her murdered dad gave her was enough to give her the foundation to come back, create health and go out and get what she needs.
