Meet the Author

Diana Sproul hightailed it from the working world and corporate ridiculousness in 2005 to have her daughter, and become a stay-at-home mom (you know - working more hours for no money, and no glory). She learned a lot about baby sign language when her daughter was a toddler. It rocked! It eliminated a lot of frustration, and screaming for things. (You may have seen this at restaurants - toddlers pointing and screaming). It was fantastic for this Mom to be able to talk to her tiny creature in two way conversation after a year of one-way communication!

Her daughter brought up topics she was thinking about, like her Dad at work, the bird she heard outside, other babies she saw at the store, and the dog she saw.

Diana could also see how her daughter learned: Her brain first grouped things altogether (like animals), and then gradually separating each animal out of the group. She then used separate signs then for each animal.

And learning sign language actually helps the formation of language. Today her daughter is an avid talker - well-spoken, with a great vocabulary, and correct verb usage. Diana sometimes has to break into the conversation to get a word in edge-wise.

Diana served as a local MOMS Club President and website designer for 1 year each from 2009-2011, and is still active. A graphics and website designer for many years, she currently helps with marketing the family's boardgame store, as well as running the Facebook page and volunteering for the local elementary school garden.
