A baby’s brain is 250% more active than that of an adult.

• The networking of the brain's synapses is nearly complete after the first 3 years of life.
• Giving your baby stimulating experiences encourages brain development that will prepare your baby for successful learning in the future.

Filled with developmental games based on the latest brain research, Baby Smarts helps you build your baby’s brain power, one activity at a time!

Baby Smarts is divided into four chapters, each representing a three-month period. Each chapter begins with a chart that helps teachers and parents anticipate the typical developmental milestones for that age. The corresponding games and activities develop and reinforce the skills babies need to reach those milestones. Each activity in Baby Smarts uses common materials—there’s no need for expensive toys or props. Every activity in Baby Smarts builds the foundation for future learning!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Leigh Geiger
This is a small, but well organized collection of learning games from an author with impressive credentials in childhood development and considerable experience in working with children, parents, and teachers. The developmental games and experiences are organized in chapters by three-month age periods from birth to one year. None of the activities require any materials other than everyday objects found in any home or school setting. Each chapter begins with a brief developmental milestone chart listing physical, social-emotional, and intellectual milestones that most infants develop during the three-month periods. The games are then organized within each age group by the type of stimulation they provide. Some of the suggestions are so basic that most prospective parents will probably already be familiar with them; for example, since infants from three to six months "may study faces", the "Facial Expressions" game suggests smiling at the baby or sticking out your tongue. Other activities are more creative such as "Floating Feathers" which suggests lying on your back on the floor and throwing a colored feather up in the air to stimulate eye tracking. For many readers, however, the games will probably be less important than the explanation of how they help their child grow. Concerned parents will be assured by the developmental research which supports these activities. Others will find it an excellent way to ensure that they are attending to all areas of their child's development. The index in the back will be useful for harried parents looking for a quick suggestion to entertain their baby. Reviewer: Leigh Geiger, Ph.D.
