Even if one were to accept the notion that using Bach as a model for writing chorales is a modern and good pedagogical tool (in fact, Bach's idiocyncracies and unorthodox methods are often the exception in counterpoint and not the rule), this book gives only limited guidance. The stilted language in which it is written doesn't help either. This book (and the accompanying part on instrumental counterpoint) falls short on both counts.
