Overview

On the tail end of another heartache, Jessica decides she’s had enough. Enough parties, enough mistakes, and enough of this rut she’s thrown herself into. When college finally grinds to a halt after four hazy years, she makes a decision. She’ll take a job in Texas, move out of L.A. for the first time in her life, and wipe the slate clean.

If only growing up was that easy.

Not one night in Texas and she meets the most ruggedly handsome cowboy she’s ever seen. William Davies has it all: wealth, prestige, profitable business ventures and women throwing themselves at him. But while Jessica theoretically knows he’s way out of her league, old habits die hard.

As Jessica struggles to flesh out this new life, William struggles to keep her at arm’s length. But Fate, and an adventurous spirit, has Jessica continuously bumping into him, making a mark as only she can.

    Omg so crazy!

Sex in the city texas series! Alt of inner dialogue. Accurate, well written, and a super hot cowby! 200+ pgs of free romance. Only raunchy part was the first chapter. Waking up after a one night stand, but it does give you a great understanding later on in the book. Couldnt put it down. Everything a lady needs for a self imposed time out! Cant wait for the next one!

    Good

More than half of the reviewers wrote this book was funny and I must say I agree wholeheartedly with them. It was also compared to Sex and the City but I was never a fan of that show so I can't comment.

Overall, I think Jessica's character was sarcastically, annoyingly cute. Its like one minute I'm cracking up at something she's saying or thinking but the next minute she's getting on my nerves. She's a grown woman who obsesses way too much over a men who treat her like crap, she spends about 75% of the book crying and whining, she is super clumsy; especially when William is around, oh and she can't handle her liquor to save her life, but she keeps on drinking. On the other hand she has no filter, says what's on her mind, most of the time its embarrassing as hell, and for some reason is always getting hit on.

William's character was unnecessarily broody, its not really clear why he acts the way he does. I guess it'll get explained in the next book. The whole book was from Jessica's POV, which kind of sucked. Its always good to get the perspective from a few of the other characters, not just one.

So, the cover of the book is very sexy, but there is nothing sexual in the book. There is a lot of talk from Jessica about her dirty thoughts but nothing crude or crass...maybe the author is saving the good stuff for the next book...

Written with teen mentality but language not for teens. How 1 woman could be so stupid is beyond me. Managed to read about 50 pages, hoping it would get better.

    Really good and funny

The author has an interesting writing style. It kind of reminded me of sex in the city but in L.A. in the beginning. Weird nicknames I guess adds to the hummor. Do not expect allot of hot steamy sex scenes but do expect to be highly entertained. I really liked this short story and will read moe fom this author. K

    Loved it!

This book was so cute! I read it in one day and I went to buy the next one, however, it doesn't look like its available yet. So, I guess I'll check for it later. I loved the main character, she is funny and quirky and sarcastic, which kept the book entertaining. Strongly recommend!

Starting off reading Back In The Saddle, I hated it. First, it started off with a description of a hook up that gave me a visceral reaction. It did almost cause me to stop reading, but I didn't take any stars away for that be cause it did give me a reaction. I love when I get strong emotions to a book. Well, not that kind per say. I found out as I kept reading that it did represent rock bottom. What bugged me most was the swearing an vulgar attitude of the character in the beginning. Not on any moral grounds or I shouldn't have continued reading. I think Janet Evanovich does this in a way that makes you laugh out loud. In this book it just grated my nerves. As we read on she decides to change her life by moving from California to Texas. This too annoyed me how she played the stereo type of hippie California girl verses Bible thump. Once I was past all that it started picking up. We come to her first trip to the rodeo. I thought this was going to be an animal right fight as she describes the poor plight of the calf in calf roping. However she then had the cowboys describe how this is used on the ranch and went on to give you a fair, informative and funny view of rodeo events. She goes on to take on the issue of rape, women's self defense, and the southern gentlemen. If the beginning wasn't so awful I'd give it more stars.

    Great series!

I really loved this series. I purchased the other two because the end of this one definitely left me wanting to know what happened next. I loved watching the relationships develop & see the main character find her stride in a place so foreign to her. Definitely had a bit of everything-romance, suspense & great sex.

    It was ok.it

It was just ok. There was actually no plot to the story. Girl likes boy, boy likes girl, and then he does not, and then he does. Some missing words in some of the sentences.

Be prepared to LOL! (Raunchily hilarious writing.) To be honest, I almost didn't give this writer the chance to win me over. I wasn't in the mood (didn't have the attention span) to invest in following her through her various tangents to "get to the point" (even though I am personally well known for my own tangential thinking/writing). I slogged through the LA story, dragged my feet through the move to Texas, then suddenly I had to re-read a line... twice, then... literally Laughed Out Loud. I re-read the paragraph leading up to it. I looked around for someone to share this brilliant line with, knowing I was alone. I was hooked!

Throughout Back in the Saddle, this continued to happen to me & I started to wish I could highlight each of these brilliant lines to share - I decided I'd just have to recommend this book to all my friends/relatives (who wouldn't be offended by the raunchiness) & tell them to phone/text me each time they get to a line they want to share! So, I'm recommending this to anyone else as well (though not giving out my phone number).

Overall: aside from the (possibly verbose but) incredibly witty writing by K. F. Breene, this book has well developed & fun characters, great description of immediate & overall setting, believable (in an unbelievable sorta way) story line, & a great one-character POV romance (the classic way of writing a romance, though nothing about this story will seem out-of-date). In my youth I found myself frustrated with the one-person POV, not having a clue about the male character’s inner motivations until the too-brief, too-pat wrap up in the final chapter (or even the very last page) of those old novels, BUT I did not find this novel to read the same. Instead I (more keenly than with the new style of multi-POV) felt the frustrations of the heroine in not understanding the hero (exactly like in real life), but unlike those traditional stories of “stoic,” “enigmatic,” & “unreadable” men, the “clues” of this hero’s attraction & struggle with his emotions are clear throughout the book.

A note about COWBOYS/SOUTHERN GENTLEMEN: this book does a great job describing some of the best examples of well-mannered men, & as a "Heartlander" I can tell you they are accurate not stereotypical, but also not common to ALL local men. There are allusions to past sexist southern societal norms that are unfortunately also accurate, though not just in the "South" or in the "Heartland." As in most books, there is at least one "villain," & he is one of the examples of modern "southern" misogynistic men. Though closer to a stereotype & obviously added as a literary device, I'm saddened to say he/they is also quite accurate. If you come to the Heartland, I believe the men you meet will probably fall somewhere between these best & worst examples - & some could be quite a bit like the supporting cast described herein.

Also of note, though this is a "first in a series" book, it is a COMPLETE romance novel, NOT just a "TEASER" introducing the characters & then making you buy the next book to get any satisfaction. This book is COMPLETELY SATISFYING & WELL WORTH THE COMMITMENT of your time & energy.
