This book is the result of waking up from an idyllic dream. America is a great nation, but it still has a past of violence and bloodshed against minorities and colored people. Racism did not go extinct; it only changed names and continues to haunt our nation. With the recent polarity in the country, it is high time that we learn to beat our demons and become united as a people, as Americans. It is not just about speaking up. We have to heal and understand each other. Only love can end the cycle of pain and suffering that was started generations ago. We must take the first steps, or be condemned to repeat the mistakes of the past.

About the Author

Elizabeth Reed-Chambers was born and raised in West Virginia. During her childhood, she did not experience racism and only read about it in the school history books on slavery. To her, African slaves were a thing of the past, and racism was like a villain in a fairy tale. It was only when she moved to North Carolina did she realize that monsters still existed. Like a dunk in cold water, her eyes were opened to a whole new world when she started attending divinity school. From that point on, she vowed to connect with her ancestors and dig out the roots of her family history.
