Overview

A staple of the legendary New Orleans music scene since he was four years old, Trombone Shorty and his ace band, Orleans Avenue, make their Verve Forecast debut with Backatown.

Produced by Galactic's Ben Ellman, the album's fourteen tracks capture the energy of Shorty's inimitable live performance and the band's unique combination of funk, R&B, rock, and classic New Orleans influences.

Shorty is a veteran of Lenny Kravitz's band and has also collaborated with U2, Wynton Marsalis, and Harry Connick Jr.

The album features guest appearances by Allen Toussaint (on a cover of his R&B classic "On Your Way Down"), Marc Broussard (who duets with Shorty on "Right to Complain"), and Lenny Kravitz (who plays guitar and sings on "Something Beautiful").

U2's the Edge says of Shorty, "We were just mesmerized by him," and Lenny Kravitz adds that "Shorty is a genius. He's a genius player, he's got nothing but personality, he plays his ass off, and he's a beautiful human being. I love Shorty." From the Label
