Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Bad Dog isn't really bad, just misunderstood. And like all other misunderstood dogs that nobody wants, he finds himself confined to Z-block of the city dog pound. Fester, the Z-block warden puts Bad Dog into solitary confinement, or what is more affectionately called, "The Hole." Most dogs only spend about three days in "The Hole," but Fester leaves Bad Dog there for six weeks. Then, one day three strange men visit him. They are so impressed with how well he has survived such an extended period in solitary confinement that they decide to take him with them. Bad Dog is thrilled; until he discovers that they are from the Outer Space Exploration Agency and they plan to send him on a special mission to Mars. Suddenly, "The Hole" is not looking so bad after all. This is the second in a series of books about Bad Dog and his crazy antics. A light read filled with offbeat humor and bad jokes, this book should appeal to third through fifth graders. Boys especially will find it an enjoyable read. 2005, Scholastic Inc, Ages 7 to 10.
