Baylor (Bay) Rumble , just a guy getting by the best way he can, living on his boat, the Baye Rum, is a witness to the shooting death of a young woman. Seems like everyone thinks he knows a lot more than he actually does. There's the widow of a mobster who wants the dead lady's diary. Then there's a friend of the deceased who will be happy just to copy some numbers out of said diary. Throw in a potential dirty cop, some ugly -looking thugs, a barmaid who someone wants to kill, and an ex-con, well, Bay runs the gauntlet of people who are mean, dangerous, and not above killing if they think its deserved. Most of the characters are well-drawn to form. The bad guys are really, really bad. The women are all mostly young, beautiful and sexy. Bay is a laid-back man, with a history of alcoholism and homelessness....but he's got a sense of humor (sometimes at very inappropriate times) and he's quite likeable. This is first in a series starring Bay, and I look forward to seeing where things go from here. The author supplied the book in exchange for an unbiased opinion.

This book introduces freelance sleuth Baylor Rumble. #2 is Bleeding Sisters, #3 Catalina Killers. In this one Bay is in Long Beach where a beautiful woman is killed in front of him. He gets involved with murder and treachery. A great page turner. Buy it!
