I bought Bad Penny for a whopping 99-cents, figuring it was time

I bought Bad Penny for a whopping 99-cents, figuring it was time to try another new author out for size.  My favorite reads usually center around Brad Thor, Lee Child, Stephen Hunter, Dale Brown, Brad Taylor, and Patrick Robinson.  John D. Brown has me eagerly awaiting his next effort.  It took me four nights to read 20% of the book, and 1 day to read the other 80%.  I hate to have two books partially read at the same time, and the new Brad Thor book popped up on my nook "Home" screen, so something had to give.  Let me just say the pages flew by in a most pleasurable manner.  I enjoyed the novel  tremendously.  The Army ruined me by assigning me to proofread the Fort Knox phone book a hundred years ago, so grammatical, syntax, spelling, and other errors jump off the pages at me, and the nook edition of Bad Penny had it's share of those.  However, Mr. Brown made up for those with his style, detail, and rich character creation.  My imagination filled in all the detail that a good book inspires.  And while a movie never seems to do a book justice, I'd still pay to see Bad Penny on the big screen.  Thank you, Mr. Brown for a rich read, great descriptive passages of Wyoming, and a thrill ride with Frank Shaw, whom I hope to see in the next adventure.

    What a great book!

Once I started this book I had trouble stopping to sleep or to do anything else. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and particularly liked the simple wit in the interactions of Frank, the main character, and Sam, his neighbor. Now that I've finished, I can get some sleep.

    Easy, entertaining read!

A fast-paced story that while fiction, does provide a glimpse into the world of human trafficking, drugs, gangs, illegal immigration and other problems facing modern day America. I never thought I would find myself cheering on an ex-con, but the author has created a believable character (Frank), that while still causing havoc, is developed in such a way that he can be cheered on. Entertaining read; certainly not for younger readers though. Recommend this one!

Excellent read. Mormon bakers assist an ex-Green Beret felon track his nephew and a mystery women who were kidnapped by his former cellmate and a cartel thug. The ensuing chase compels you to turn the page. Author Brown laces a dose of humor and exposition into the action but does not impede the pace. I especially appreciated the reality check resolution where the good deeds face punishment via the legal system.
A Frank Shaw sequel is due in 2014 per the author's web site and I am watching for its release.

Boring. impossible chase scene goes on and on. Couldn't stay interested enough to finish the book. This is rare for me. Sometime I will go back and try to finish it.
