Overview

Danika hasn't had an easy life. Being insanely attracted to bad boys has never helped make it easier.
One look at Tristan, and every brain cell she possessed went up in smoke. This man was trouble with a capital T. It was a given.
She knew better. Bad boys were bad. Especially for her. Considering her history, it was crazy to think otherwise. So why did crazy have to feel so damn fine?
For as long as she could remember, Danika had been focused on the future with single-minded purpose. Tristan came along and taught her everything there was to know about letting go, and living in the present. She fell, hard, and deep. Of course, that only made her impact with the ground that much more devastating.

Bad Things is about Tristan and Danika, and their train wreck of a love story. This series can be read as a standalone, or with the Up in the Air trilogy.
This book is intended for ages 18 and up.

Editorial Reviews

Goodreads - Raine Miller
"A masterpiece! Tristan and Danika have a story told so realistically by R.K. Lilley, you'll ache for them in BAD THINGS, and have a hard time remembering this is a novel. A very well written novel at that. Off the charts sexy, soul-baring emotion, and explosive chemistry between the two mix together here into pure literary gold. BAD THINGS is a beautiful thing!"

~Reviewed by ANN & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog

I discovered R.K. Lilley because of her In Flight series. After gaining glimpses of Tristan and Danika from that series ,I was eager to see how their story would unfold in their own books. Danika felt a little different to me in this novel than how I remembered her in the In Flight series. She still has that smart mouth and speaks her mind, but she also seemed a little more shy. I wonder if that’s because Tristan’s personality is more bigger and a little more dominant. One thing is for sure though. They are a great match!

The beginning of BAD THINGS starts off a little slow for me, focusing on being cute. But then that soon changes gears and it begins to heat up. A lot.

Lilley doesn’t shy away from the sexy parts. In fact, I think she likes pushing reader’s buttons and seeing how far they are willing to go through her characters.

I didn’t think it was possible to make me love another hero as much as James Cavendish, but Lilley is convincing me that maybe she can. While I don’t think BAD THINGS really hooked me completely, there is an ember there that can flare into a dangerous fire in the second book of the series. This gets me excited because I LOVED Mile High, the second book of the In Flight series so if Lilley plays her cards right, she’ll have me in a bind, completely at her mercy.

3.5 Stars. This story started out great then took a turn all over the place. I felt too many distractions and different sub-stories started happening and kinda left you hanging..all over the place. Tristan and Danika's story became jumbled, she was the weak one then he turned weak...both had deep seated issues..

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I absolutely loved this series! Tristan and Danika's story was so gut wrenching and so wonderful. I read the author's Up in the Air series first and while I thoroughly enjoyed that series, I became much more emotionally invested with Tristan and Danika. Their story incorporates most of the same characters from the Up in the Air series and takes place over about six years. They go though just about every tragedy possible but eventually make it through to the other side...barely. I loved how you could practically feel the characters change and develop over the years. I am not a crier but I did shed some tears for these two. This is definitely a re-read for me! Great, angsty, emotional story with amazing sexy scenes.

Do you ever have that moment of nervousness when you¿re about to

Do you ever have that moment of nervousness when you’re about to read a new trilogy from an author that already wrote a trilogy you absolutely adored? I do … and often. I’m constantly worried that the new trilogy could never possibly be as good as the first one I’d read by that author. In this case, I fell in love with RK Lilley’s trilogy Up in Flight. It’s one of the best trilogies I’ve read since my beloved 50 Shades of Grey. Top five for sure. Well, the author has a bit of a universe in the Up in Flight series. With that trilogy you meet supporting characters Danika and Tristan. To be honest, I didn’t think they were that interesting in the Up in Flight series because they didn’t have a lot of face time, so I didn’t rush out to buy the first book “Bad Things” that was the start of their tale. BIG MISTAKE.

This novel goes back to when Tristan and Danika first met. A good six to seven years prior to where they are in their relationship in the Up in Flight series. So I knew going in that at some point, Tristan and Danika’s tale was going to go horribly wrong because they weren’t together in the other series. Be that as it may, I firmly decided that I’d read the entire trilogy once the third book was out. In Bad Things, you get a lovely tale of how the hero and heroine fall in love, live their life and battle fledgling careers, loss of loved ones, and the start of success for Tristan. Their love is built off friendship at first and turns into something a whole helluva lot bigger.

This book started off great. Exactly what I look for in a book but towards the end I lost a little interest. I LOVE angst but the characters started to get a little too much like that annoying couple that you are friends with that always fight and ruin everyone else's good time. "That" couple is irritating in real life and hard to read in a book. BUT I am fairly certain that this is setting up the next books so whle it was a little obnoxious in the end I will definitely keep reading this series.

This book absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. As in... I was 100% surprised with where this book took me. Going in, I only had the knowledge from the Up in the Air series, where Tristan and Danika were first, briefly introduced to the readers. I didn't read any teasers, chapters, nothing. So, imagine my surprise when Bad Things is actually a predecessor to the events in the Up in the Air series. But, truthfully? I loved it. I was going to get to see everything that happened in detail. Not just glimpses of the past, or vague references that kept me guessing. Although, I still don't know how I didn't know about this! Anyhow, I'm passed my incredulous stage now. This book is AMAZING! Absolutely stupendous. There is a bad boy lead who I loved to hate, and hated to love but, also loved to love. And then there's Danika. She is an enigma. So incredibly strong, yet also a little weak where Tristan is concerned. I didn't fault her for her weakness, it was more of a testament to Tristan's beguiling ways than anything else.

Bad Things starts from the very beginning. It opens with Tristan and Danika's first meet and journeys through every twist and turn thereafter. I was utterly entranced with Tristan and Danika's friendship at the start. Their mannerisms toward each other were equal parts hilarious and seductive. Tristan is a true bad influence but, Danika can't help but be pulled under. They have a very dynamic relationship, even when they're not together. And the cast they surround themselves with feeds into that drama as well. We have Frankie, who I absolutely adore. Tristan's brother, Jared, who comes with a whole host of his own problems, and several other friends and band members that lead the same hectic lifestyle that Tristan dragged Danika into. Partying all night, drinking everyday. It is very much an eye opener. I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. But it was never predictable as to when it would or how far it would fall.

This book had me laughing, pissed off, hurt, angry, swooning, and crying. Yes, the tears. You win this one R.K., but I'll be prepared when I read Rock Bottom (though, based on the name, I think I'll lose the crying battle during that one too). Bad Things is a smorgasbord of drama, hot sex, jealousy, and a complete out of left field moment that will shock you to your core. However, and I stress this, it ISN'T a cliffhanger. Just completely unexpected. In the end, I was left needing more but, not necessarily wanting it. I knew if R.K. Lilley could tatter up my heart with just one book, she might just destroy it over the next two. Honestly, I'm frightened to start Rock Bottom. Because eventually Tristan and Danika are going to catch up to point B, that I got a glimpse of in the Up in the Air series and I might not be able to handle it. Not because it will be a bad story but, because I know it's going to blow my mind and that at some point I'll most likely be cursing the dear Ms. Lilley. I don't know, that's just my educated guess. I'll have to see, I might get someone to buddy read it with me :) Overall, a superb read and highly recommended!

    Happy Reading!
