Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Warm and sensitive illustrations reflect the hopeful mood of this tale about woodland animals learning to accept their friend Badger's death. Ages 4-up. (July)
Children's Literature - Susie Wilde
This is a particualrly good book for children who lose pets that are older or in pain. It softly describes Badger's death and how his friends transform their grief by seeing how Badger lives on in the "parting gifts" he's left them.
School Library Journal
Badger's friends are overwhelmed with their loss when he dies. By sharing their memories of his gifts, they find the strength to face the future with hope. Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.

    Wonderful !

I picked this book up at the library partly because of the illustrations. It is a warmly written and thoughtful book that almost any child would love. It is a great conversation starter for those who are faced with a death situation. The story shows death as part of a natural course of events. It also speaks to how important one's legacy is - each one of badger's friends can remember something important that he taught them and they find comfort in their memories.
