I had always been curious about the collapse of the German army on the Russian front in 1944 but had never read an account of what happened. Apparently it is difficult for historians to access detailed information about operation Bagration, and consequently this book is very superficial. It does however give you some idea of what happened. There is virtually no information from the German side which other readers have suggested is because the German command was in a state of absolute chaos as they retreated. Detailed maps of battles are not well explained and in one case a map of a German counter offensive is not explained at all. This book is nowhere near as informative or scholarly as Max Hastings Overlord or Armageddon. However, if you want a rudimentary understanding of events in Russia in June through August of 1944 this book is probably worth reading. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
