Overview

Who's murdering vampires in Los Angeles and throwing the bodies into the Dedhams' pool? Each victim has been branded, a distinct mark that is the calling card of femme fatale vampire Ann Hayes. The contemptuous undead beauty declares her innocence, but can the vampires believe her? Has Ann returned to reclaim Doug Dedham, whom she once loved? Or is she being framed?

Complicating matters are Madison's burgeoning feelings for both sexy vampire Colin Reddy and fellow "beater" detective Mike Notchey. The stakes have never been higher as Madison and the vampires race to solve the mystery and stop the killer.

Praise:
"Sexy repartee, brisk plotting, and splendid supernatural scene-setting... a decidedly fresh spin on vamp lit."—Sophie Littlefield, Anthony Award-winning author of A Bad Day for Sorry

Publishers Weekly
Former waitress Madison Rose now works for the California Vampire Council in Jaffarian's smart sequel to 2010's Murder in Vein, but finding dead—or undead—vampire bodies in the swimming pool of the Topanga Canyon home of her vampire friends, the Dedhams, isn't in the job description. Since most cops don't know vampires exist, Madison's LAPD detective friend, Mike Notchey, can't do much through normal channels, so much of the sleuthing falls to Madison. Is this the work of Annabelle Fogle, a seductive and dangerous vampire with a grudge, or is someone attacking the council? Through refreshingly intelligent investigative work, Madison arrives at some conclusions that may lead to the truth, but along the way she must also deal with some difficult personal issues. Dark humor, edgy suspense, and an appealing cast of characters will leave readers anxiously awaiting the next book. (Sept.)

In this second "Madison Rose Vampire" mystery (after Murder in Vein), our protagonist discovers two bodies in a swimming pool. The victims are vampires. Madison, a human who works for the handsome chairman of the Los Angeles Vampire Council, taking care of the vamps' daytime business while they lie in a corpselike sleep, races to stop a killer who may be framing another vampire. Jaffarian's tantalizing, tangled mystery and well-drawn characters will keep readers interested in the action. For fans of urban fantasies and paranormal mysteries.
