Barnes & Noble - Mark Schwartz
The success of France's Gotan Project has cracked a window on a whole world of techno-tango bohemians. This Latin Grammy-winning selection from superproducer Gustavo Santaolalla Juanes, Molotov, Café Tacuba, Orishas presents eight producers and instrumentalists who have their way with the dissolute blues of his native Argentina. Unlike the Gotans, the members of Bajofondo literally, the underground focus their experimentation on the more upbeat tango expressions, using a wealth of electronic rhythms, including trance and drum 'n' bass alongside the more simpatico sounds of dub and trip-hop. It was only a few years ago, after all, that drum 'n' bass was being heralded as the new jazz, and it makes sense that the sonic possibilities be applied to tango, as so many tangueros were influenced by the freedom of jazz. The sonic signature of the music remains the bandoneon, though, that black-velvet exhalation of back-alley illicitness that stains all of tango. For ears already opened to the sound of the Buenos Aires underground, Bajofondo provides a heart-pounding new chapter.

    Awesome

BUENISIMO! If you like tango, you will love this new modern version of the most classic songs. I also totally recommend the Gotan Project which started the new age tango movement, and a cd titled Astor Pizolla remixed. Excellent!

    Sexy and Sassy

I often peruse the international section at music stores, mostly because this is where the good stuff tends to be. I came across this album because the cover caught my attention, but I soon found out that was not all this cd had to offer. I had visions of an independent movie, with Quentin Tarinto (sorry spelling) shots. My feet, my hips and my mind was alive listening to their beats. Every song is a plus...but don't take my word, listen yourself....
